Andover Men’s 1s won their league with matches to spare and secured promotion to the league above following a 4-2 win against Alton.

High pressure from Alton at the get go, left the home side passing the ball rapidly, getting up the field but without any goal success despite dominating the play for a lot of the first half. Alton put out a strong side not making it easy for the Andover men.

Opportunity came when the home team won a penalty corner at 32 minutes but it still finished 0-0 at half time.

Coach Dave Millings' half time chat had the desired impact as the men came back on to the pitch looking confident and focused and they won a short corner nine minutes in and Sam Goacher managed to get the ball into the net.

Fifity-one minutes in Liam O’Sullivan passed under the arm to James Pawley, straight back to Jamie Hacker opening up an opportunity for Liam to come back and make it a goal.  Jamie Hacker went on to score the third goal, making Andover look securely on track for a strong win.

Alton however weren’t prepared to give in so easily and put two goals into the net in quick succession at 52min and 55 min bringing the score line to a much less comfortable 3-2.

But Ben Anthony managed to come in with a right side attack and finish on the back post sealing a 4-2 win for Andover.

In another game, Andover Andover U14s girls defeated New Forest 4-0. The game was very evenly matched throughout, but Andover managed to get four goals in and their goalkeeper Molly M managed to keep the visitors from scoring.
