RETURNING Andover Town star Ike Robertson scored his side’s only goal as they drew 1-1 against Warminster in their penultimate pre-season friendly.

The midfielder, who returned to Town’s teamsheet for the first time in more than a year, scored the equaliser during the friendly fixture held at Sparsholt College on Saturday.

The goal came in the second half after Town’s Western League Division One visitors had taken the lead midway through the first half.

Town, under the management of new boss John Robson, struggled in the opening 45 minutes with several new faces introduced to the starting lineup.

Meanwhile Warminster’s defence stood firm, limiting Andover’s chances in the final third.

The visitors found the breakthrough after 25 minutes and held their lead going into half time.

A series of substitutions by Robson changed the change in Andover’s favour with Town looking far more dangerous in the second half.

Warminster’s keeper was forced into several saves but Town eventually broke through after some good play in the opponents penalty area was tapped home by Robertson.

Andover failed to find a winner as both teams settled for a draw.

The game was Town’s penultimate pre-season friendly ahead of their Wessex Premier League opener against Sholing on Tuesday, 2 August.

Town’s final friendly will be a charity match against local rivals Andover New Street at the Portway Stadium on Saturday.

Money raised at the match will be donated to Cancer Research UK.

Kick-off is at 3pm.

Town will be hoping for a win to round-off a mixed pre-season, which has included wins against Locks Heath and Follands Sports but a heavy defeat to Southern League Division One side AFC Totton.

Andover have also had draws against Warminster and Sussex League opponents Chichester City.

Meanwhile Street have had defeats to Moneyfields and Devizes Town but won their recent friendly, a 4-3 win away at AFC Aldermaston.
