ANDOVER New Street travelled to the Isle of Wight for the first game of the season with a squad of 15.

New Street started well and for the first 15 minutes dominated but with no reward.

Cowes started to get back into the game but New Street created the first opening with Casson Spencer closing the keeper down and he cleared the ball straight to the hard working Liam Wilkins only to see his shot go just over the bar.

The game became scrappy but Cowes nearly scored when a cross shot came back off the bar.

Just before half time New Street should have taken the lead when some good play from the midfield lead to a great link play between Danny Field and Ben Morris who crossed to Spencer who set up Zac Peters only to shoot over.

In the second half New Street found their passing game but with the sun beaming down it looked as if the game was going to end in a draw.

But then on 73 minutes great work by Harry Burt and Wilkins moved the ball wide to Field who sent Morris away who went on a great run and crossed the ball to the incoming Spencer whose shot was saved only to see the rebound fall to Peters who netted the winner.

Manager Paul Reidy said: “I’m really pleased, the new signings have settled in very well and all played well, as have the players that have stayed with us.

“Dave Tasker pulled off a great save in the first half but after myself and Ray Cozzi settled them down at half-time we were the better side and Tasker never had to a save to make in the second half.”
