ANDOVER Cricket Club continued their good run of form by trouncing high flying Basingstoke at a sun baked London Road.

Andover, who were rained off in the previous fixture with Basingstoke's neighbours Hook, went into the fixture having won their previous two games.

On yet another good looking pitch, Basingstoke unsurprisingly chose to bat first after winning the toss.

The Augustus brothers, Darron and Dylan, took the new ball and immediately put the Basingstoke openers under pressure with their contrasting styles.

Darron made the breakthrough with the score on 18 when Richard Vinn was caught attempting to pull a ball that was not short enough.

In the 12th over David Taylor replaced Darron Augustus and immediately trapped the Basingstoke captain Chris Froud lbw and Basingstoke were in a spot of bother with the score on 32.

It got worse five runs later when Taylor picked up his second wicket with Danny Foy taking a superb diving catch over his shoulder to remove the dangerous Martyn James.

Dylan Augustus deservedly picked up a wicket himself with a delivery that went across the left-hander Steve Bucksey and was brilliantly caught by a diving Taylor in a close third slip.

Basingstoke were struggling on 38-4 but this brought ex-Hampshire player, Mitchell Stokes, to the crease.

Stokes and Craig Williamson battled well but Taylor broke the resistance with a beauty, well caught by wicketkeeper Matt Knight.

Taylor, bowling one of his best performances this season, picked up his fourth wicket which was again well taken by the ever dependable keeper Knight.

Adams was bowling with great rhythm and he made the crucial breakthrough when he clean bowled Stokes for 38.

Darron Augustus finished the Basingstoke innings, picking up his third wicket and leaving them with a below par 128 all out.

Andover set about chasing down Basingstoke’s total but knew that, against one of the best bowling attacks in the league, that this low total may be tricky to surpass.

Treagus, who has been in great form over the last few weeks, was the first to make his mark with a couple of beautifully timed boundaries but was ultimately the first to fall when he was bowled by Porter with the score on 28.

Four runs later Darron Augustus was caught behind off the same bowler brining in Taylor.

Arnold was playing himself in nicely and Taylor was immediately picking off the bad balls.

This pair put on the biggest partnership of the match sharing 88 for the third wicket and took Andover within 20 runs of Basingstoke’s total.

Unfortunately Taylor fell with the total in sight when he was caught off spinner Stokes.

Max Souter took over and looked in good touch but he was then adjudged LBW off the returning Porter.

This brought Martin Roberts to the crease and his only job was to watch Arnold deservedly finish the game off.

Arnold carried his bat for a well-constructed 73 and he will be looking to carry this form into the remaining five fixtures this season.

Andover went past Basingstoke’s total in the 29th over.

They will look to carry this momentum into Saturday’s match when they visit top of the table side New Milton in what will be a tough fixture.
