WHITCHURCH United toasted their excellent season last weekend as they gathered for a sit-down meal at their end-ofyear presentation.

The club, who started the season with a new manager and several new players, finished sixth in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division this season, seven places higher than their 2013-2014 campaign.

The Jamboys were also unlucky to miss out on cup success as they narrowly lost in a penalty shoot-out against Winchester in the North Hants Cup final.

However, there was much to celebrate on the night as Danny Phillips grabbed the club’s Golden Boot award after amassing an impressive 25 goals throughout the season.

Phillips also scooped Manager’s Player of the Year from his boss Carl Bennet while goalkeeper Brad Snelling took both the Supporters’ Player and Players’ Player of the Year after a magnificent season between the posts.

Snelling then made it a hat-trick of trophies as he picked up the Jackman Cup, presented by owner Brian Jackman, for being the club’s most consistent player.

Josh Harfield rounded up the awards, receiving the Most Improved Player trophy after an impressive season.

Mr Jackman was delighted with his team’s progress this year.

Speaking after the ceremony, he said: “It was a really enjoyable evening which started with a three-course meal and I would like to thank committee member Paul Driver and his team for doing the catering.

“I would also like to say Carl and his management team Dan piper, Nigel Green and Cara Lewis have done a wonderfully job this season.

“Carl has exceeded the committee’s aspirations of finishing mid-table by finishing sixth out of 21 teams – which is a really good position to be in – particularly since a lot of people thought we were underdogs.”
