LIONS’ mini revival came to an abrupt halt on Saturday when they crashed to a heavy defeat at table topping Infinity.

Hopes of improving on their recent performance against Infinity were dashed even before kick-off when late withdrawals left them with just ten players to take on their promotion chasing rivals.

When Sam Floyd slotted home from the penalty spot on five minutes it looked like the flood gates would open but a combination of determined defending and inspired goalkeeping from Dan Magee kept the deficit to a single goal until just before the break.

Tiredness however took its toll and two late goals gave Infinity a 3- 0 lead at the break.

The second half followed a similar format but this time Andover held Infinity at bay for 20 minutes until Stringer hit his second of the afternoon.

Two late strikes meant that the score line did not do justice to the dogged display but with Michelmersh and Timsbury losing at home to Netley, Andover remained above their closest rivals at the bottom end of the table.

After the match Chris Paris was more disappointed with the events leading up to kick-off rather than the performances of his players on the day.

“It was very disappointing to get let down by some players just before kick-off, and it drives it home to us that the balance of the squad is still not right and that is something that will need to change before next season.

“Some of the performances out there today were excellent and without wishing to pick out individuals you would have to say that Dan Magee was exceptional and the whole Infinity squad were glowing in their tributes to him after the match."
