A LATE equaliser earned Fareham a 2-2 draw and denied Andover victory from the South Women’s League Division 3B Hampshire derby at John Hanson.

Andover looked likely winners when Lizzie Vincent fired home a short corner from the top of the D with only five minutes remaining.

But Fareham penned Andover back in their own 23 and equalised through Vicky Field in a goalmouth scramble with just two minutes to go.

Mid-table Andover had broken the stalemate in the second half through Bel Penfound, but the evergreen Maggie Kinder fired Fareham’s equaliser ten minutes later after a superb run by Field.

The first ten minutes saw the home side put under pressure but they soon found their feet to dominate the rest of the first half and they took the lead after a fine run and through ball from captain Jacqui West set up Janette Griffith-Jones.

Andover took advantage of some Winchester hesitance when Holly Scott fed Prior to flick home her first goal.

Winchester were always a threat and Andover had to defend like Trojans and Dana Shelley in goal ensured a clean sheet at half-time.

Andover continued to attack and were rewarded when Prior netted her second and the team’s third from close range.

The second half saw Winchester come out in determined mood and Andover had to match them. Kate Josling and Sammy Meredith were a constant thorn in Winchester’s side with their tenacious play. The visitors did pull a goal back but this proved only a consolation goal as West set up Prior for her well deserved hat-trick.
