LAST weekend saw two young stars fly the flag for the Andover Darts Academy in the youth competition at Hayling Island.

Liam Whitehorn beat Macie Hall 2-0 in the first round then beat - former Academy player Lewis Sinagoga 2-0 to book his place in the semi-final against Tyler Radlett. Tyler then beat Liam 2-0 in the semi-final.

Chaz Monk had a bye in the first round then beat Kye Downden to reach the semi-finals before losing 2-0 to Daniel Perry.

Two other Academy stars were unfortunate as Dan Read lost to Richard Yeates in the first round of the Men’s singles and Paris Whitehorn was unlucky against Jackie Walford in the Ladies’ singles.

Claire Clackson was unfortunate to meet Hampshire’s county player Dawn Simmonds in the Ladies’ singles as was Hampshire’s Sam Pike losing 3-0 to Trina Perry in the first round.

Charlotte Burgess found some better form over the weekend after beating both Lorraine Woodrow and Jo Swain 3-0 but Stewart Clackson and Ivor Andrews lost in the first round of the Men’s singles to Grant Masterton and Gaffer Hiscock.

The Senior side of things started to look great as Andover’s John Payne received a bye in the first round then beat Howard Taylor and Martin Dixon 3-0, but in the last 32 he ran into Berkshire county A player Eddie Simmonds who won 3- 0.

Andover’s Rob Hayes beat Steve Ralph 3-0 but was unlucky in the second round after being 2-0 up against mid 80’s superstar BDO Peter Evison only to lose 3-2.

Graham Howard was also unlucky to draw Berkshire’s in-form Paul Hogan in the first round with a 3-0 loss as was Darren Large 3-0 to Welsh international Mike Gillett.

Kenny Blight received a bye into the second to meet Michael McNamara whom he beat 3-1 then ran in to Hampshire’s Bradley Kirk who then beat Kenny 3-0 .

Mark Thorne beat Middlesex county B player Tim Annetts 3-0 in the first round, then beat Surrey County A Aaron Tuner 3-1 and Paul Feitch 3-1 to book a place in the last 32.

Parsons also had a great run after beating Gary Joyce 3-0 then went on to beat Peterfield’s Gaffer Hiscock by the same scoreline, so it was then an all-Andover affair as Kev Parsons then walked into the path of Thorne.

Parsons took an early lead before Thorne fought back to win 3-2 in a very close and exciting game.

Thorne then lost in the last eight to PDC’s Jamie Robinson.

The father and son combination of Colin and Aaron Monk saw them reach the Men’s Pairs final only to lose to Aaron Turner and Phil Milburn from Surrey.

Mark Thorne is still taking entries to the forthcoming Ali Macdonald Singles on December 7 at the Wolversdene Club.
