Penton v Hursley Park IV.

Penton opened the batting with John Hunter and Richard Jenson on another good track prepared by Paul Gibbs.

Jenson was out early for 11 and Wayne Green quickly followed before Huw Rouse steadied procedures and had an 86 partnership with Hunter before being lbw Rory Tennant.

Hunter went on to a season’s best 82 with Martin Patrick finishing on 21 not out as they finished on 198-9.

Penton’s innings was interrupted by showers which left Hursley an adjusted total of 187 off 37. Barry Kavanagh’s tight opening bowling figures of five runs off six overs kept openers Pete Flynn (23) and Hashim Parvaiz (10) below the required run rate.

Martin Patrick bowled Flynn and Steve Patrick’s one handed flying catch ended Parvaiz’s innings at 35-2.

Paul Stanford took another wicket and Dulay followed shortly stumped by Rouse off Stanford with the score at 72 -4 off 25 overs.

The rain, thunder and lightning then halted the game for a second time, and Hursley’s target was adjusted to 145 off 29 overs. Matt Musgrove was out to Stanford, giving him the best bowling figures of 4-21 as Hursley ended on 84-5, giving Penton their sixth win of the season and keeping them in second place behind Amport II.
