ST PETER’S Church in Stockbridge has welcomed a new organist.

Sarah Seymour was recently appointed to the position. As well as playing the organ, she will be directing the choir who will be invited to sing at the Eucharistic services at the church twice a month.

Sarah has years of experience as both an organist and in training and conducting choirs. During the week she works as an artist.

As well as a degree in English and Theology, she has studied Sacred Music over many years and has also studied Kodaly teaching methods which enable her among other things to help singers learn to sight-sing.

Stockbridge Music has also announced a pair of events coming next month.

David Hill MBE, the former Cathedral organist from 1997 to 2002, will be returning to the area to perform in two concerts at St Peter’s Church, Stockbridge.

The first concert, The Trumpet Shall Sound with Crispian Steele-Perkins, will take place on Friday, March 1 at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile, the second event, a “masterclass” with Sarah Seymour, is at 11am on Saturday, March 2. The masterclass is part of an educational outreach programme of events aimed at local schools set up by Stockbridge Music director of music, Paul Wing.

This event will be the first event in his outreach series.
