A man from Andover is putting his knowledge to good use by starting a new ukulele group to help lead and teach the wonders of the instrument.

Following his success in leading and growing Uke@Heart, Andover resident Ivor Evans has made the decision to start a new group with specific aims in mind. Ivor's new group is called Iv's Ukulele Jam.

Ivor said: "During the past post-Covid years, I have led and developed a group from scratch and during that enjoyable time I have learnt so much. The saying 'you can't teach an old dog new tricks' is totally wrong, and I now feel more enthusiastic about the ukulele than I have ever felt about anything!

"I am ready to start again with a fresh new approach and specific worthwhile aims. I plan to put into practice all I have learnt and create another successful ukulele group."

The primary aims of the new group will be to encourage the playing of the ukulele across a wide range of musical genres and styles, shaking off the view of the ukulele instrument, and encouraging innovative and entertaining playing styles in an inclusive, collaborative environment.

All of this will be carried out with an ethos that has a charitable aim at its heart, and to encourage self-motivation and self-improvement while jamming and having fun.

Ivor added: "I am committed to supporting anyone willing to join me in this vision. Neither age nor ability are barriers to anyone wanting to be part of this ethos. Come along and have a go."

Iv's Ukulele Jam meet once a week on Saturday mornings at the Mind building in Andover, from 10am-11.30am, with anyone welcome to join, irrespective of ability.
