HAMPSHIRE musicians have rallied together to record their own rendition of the famous Band Aid Song - with a special Andover twist.

Nearly 40 years on since the song Do They Know It's Christmas?, spearheaded by Bob Geldof, was released Andover musicians James ‘Stretch’ Williams and Ross Barrett along with Love Andover's Ben Tuffin have set up Love Aid UK.

Love Aid UK has brought together a network of unsigned musicians in North Hampshire and enrolled the services of other creatives like Louis Sellers at Golden Wave Studio and James Faulkner, a photographer and film-maker, to produce their own version of the song.

Feel the Love - Do They Know It's Christmas Time? includes lyrics such as 'while there won't be snow in Andover this Christmas time'.

James said: “Music has always had the power to inspire people and as much as we already have a love for playing every weekend, getting out, meeting new people and performing and entertaining them either as part of a band or individually that passion can collectively be put to an even better use and make a difference to worthwhile causes locally deserving of our time, effort and creative talent.

"We hope our efforts influence and encourage you enough to donate a small amount of your money this Christmas and inspire you in doing so just like we’ve been influenced and inspired by the musicians that set us a positive example previously.”

The group's collective aim is to raise money for charities and initiatives within the community.

The song will be raising money for three charities including Kick Start, a charity that promotes sporting activities for children centred around Football fundraising.

Kids on Track is also being supported. Run by a team of volunteers it offers summer and winter camps for large groups of underprivileged children from troubled backgrounds.

Finding Freedom from Abuse, previously known as Andover Crisis Centre, will also receive funding. It is committed to helping survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence move forward with their lives.
