Andover Town Council has agreed to look into hosting a CPR training session to raise awareness of what to do if someone suffers from a heart attack in public.

The matter was discussed at an Andover Town Council meeting on Wednesday, October 18, with the proposal that the town council contacts from Southampton University Hospital, in the hope that NHS employees would come to Andover and hold a session for members of the community.

The aim is to aid members of the public in recognising when someone has had a heart attack and perform the necessary initial CPR, while a local defibrillator is found and brought for use, which will also be shown briefly at the drop-in session.

Cllr Katherine Bird said: "I am 100 per cent behind CPR training, I think it's something everyone should do.

"I've done match funding before to get defibrillators around the town, there are now eight, including one which belongs to the town council, and I would be delighted to do more if match funding became available as I think we could probably do the same number again."

Cllr Luigi Gregori said: "I'm very much in favour of the CPR training and very happy to support Councillor Bird with the idea and locations for more defibrillators."

Cllr Heather Neate also offered her support to Cllr Bird regarding more defibrillators in the town.

The item was proposed by Cllr Bird and seconded by Cllr Gregori.

The town council voted unanimously in favour of the proposal, with council officers to investigate the possibility of holding a CPR session in the town.

More information will be reported back at the next Andover Town Council meeting on Wednesday, November 22 at the Upper Guildhall.
