MEMBERS of the public are being encouraged to have their say on how they think Charlton Lakeside and Sports Centre could be improved.

Test Valley Borough Council has launched a consultation with residents and wants to better understand the needs and requirements of the whole site.

The council's ambition, working with Charlton Parish Council and Places Leisure, is to create short, medium, and long-term plans which reflect the borough council’s and users’ priorities.

These plans will aim to identify areas which require investment, the cost of such investment, and a fundraising plan to establish if, and how, these elements can be funded and implemented.

People are being asked to have their say on areas like the park, golf course, crazy golf, lakes, BMX track, athletics track, pavilion building and 3G pitch.

In May last year, the council opened the new 18 hole crazy golf course, the facility was approved following feedback from users, residents, and visitors to the lakeside.

The course, which cost £360,000, has an Iron Age theme in a nod to local history and the Andover Museum of Iron Age helped create the trail.

Cllr Terese Swain, portfolio holder for community, leisure and tourism, said: “We are looking to establish how people use the site, identify what its most valued assets are and look at ways to improve the site at Charlton Sports Centre to better meet the needs and expectations of the local community.

“This piece of research is focussed on gaining the views of user groups of Charlton Sports Centre from the local community and from further afield. I would really encourage anyone who uses the site to have their say as it’s vital we hear from as many people as possible before coming up with a plan.”

You can fill out the survey by visiting testvalley.gov.uk/charltonlakesideconsultation. The survey closes on Monday, August 28.

Within the consultation, the public is being asked how often they visit the site, what facilities they use and how they would rate Charlton Lakeside, to name just a few of the questions.
