AN INSPIRATIONAL teenager from Andover has chopped off her long locks in a bid to raise money for charity.

Megan Richmond, 17, lives in Charlton and attends Peter Symonds College where she is doing A Levels in maths, chemistry and biology.

She heard about the charity the Little Princess Trust and researched what it does.

She soon discovered that it provides wigs for children who have had cancer treatment and lost their hair.

Megan has always loved her long hair but felt sad for children who have lost theirs.

The college student decided to help and she had her hair chopped off on April 19 by hairdresser Tasha Beeson at home.

Her mother Nicola Richmond said: "Although Megan loves having long hair she said she knows that her hair will grow back and it could make a lovely wig for a child. She even continued to grow it for another six months so that she was able to sit on it.

"Each wig is handmade and costs around £500 so Megan set up a JustGiving page. She had a massive 19 inches cut-off and has so far raised over £500.

"We are all so proud of her."
