A POLICE helicopter has been launched as part of a manhunt in Test Valley.

One man has been detained by police on a double decker bus after the helicopter and a police dog unit were involved in the search in the West Wellow area.

Residents have described seeing police officers chasing a man through the village.

The manhunt was launched to find at least two men who were ransacking a house in Canada Road.

Police were alerted to the break-in after an alarm went off at 2.22pm yesterday, causing the men to flee the scene having made an untidy search of a bedroom in the property.

A police spokesman has confirmed one man was detained after officers stopped an X7 double decker bus.

Residents have reported seeing police cars and ambulances near Chatmohr House.

Residents have said they saw police chasing a young man down the road.

In the pouring rain one person, who works in a nearby shop, said: "Police asked me what I saw and I had just seen a young lad running down the road being chased by a police woman.

"Just looked like someone jogging to me at first."

Another resident said they saw a police helicopter overhead and two police women looking down the road.

Two police cars could be seen driving down the A36 in West Wellow.
