A VICIOUS early morning assault has left a man with serious facial injuries.

It took place on July 3 in Wote Street, Basingstoke.

Between 4am and 4.30am the 25-year-old victim was walking with two friends when one of the friends became involved in an argument with another man. The victim tried to intervene and was punched to the head by the offender causing the victim to sustain serious injuries to his jaw.

The offender was described as:

• Black 
• In his late 20s
• 6ft tall 
• Short hair and facial hair longer than stubble but shorter than a beard
• Wearing a dark jacket and jeans

Detective Darrin Carey from Northern Investigation Team said: “The victim has been left seriously injured following an unprovoked attack.

“Although the CCTV does not clearly show the offender, it is hoped someone may recognise him and I am appealing for any information which may assist in identifying him.”
