ANDOVER Police are advising people to look after their neighbours and not give their PIN out after a local incident of credit card fraud.

The warning follows an incident of courier fraud in Appleshaw on 15 and 16 June, where initially a resident reported a blue BMW acting suspiciously in the area.

The following day another resident reported that they thought they had been a victim of credit card fraud after handing his credit card and PIN over to a man at the door.

Sergeant Steve Parker from Test Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "There is an operation which is country wide known as courier fraud. The basic method they employ is they identify people to phone saying there is a problem with their credit card account so they give out their address and PIN. They will then send somebody to collect the credit card who will purport to be from the bank."

He added: "This incident just shows never give your PIN out, you will never be asked to give your PIN by the bank. The other key issue is the importance of looking out for each other."

Following the neighbour's report of the BMW with four males that appeared to be searching for an address, the registration number was traced to London and has been connected to similar incidents.
