A CRACKDOWN on drivers parking illegally is under way in a Test Valley village.

Overton Parish Council is bidding to put the brakes on the number of motorists parking on double yellow lines across the region.

The issue was raised at a full council meeting, where a number of councillors claimed that the current situation was causing danger to other drivers and pedestrians.

Poyntz Road and the Winchester Street crossroads were noted as the worst affected areas.

Speaking at the meeting, public transport representative Brian Langer said: “We had the double yellow lines put in for a reason and there is no point having them unless they are enforced.”

Councillor Langer also pledged to conduct his own patrol of the area and will report his findings at the council’s next full meeting in December.

Parking enforcers from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council may also be drafted in to inspect the area.
