ANDOVER Chantry Centre’s garden area was alive with activity on Monday as the winners of the 2014 Supertots competition met up and claimed their prizes.

The competition has been taking place in the town since the early 1990s and proves as popular as ever.

After the community was given the chance to vote for their favourites to get into the final – and thousands did so – a panel of judges picked out the winners.

T h e p a n e l comprising the Andover Advertiser’s Joe Faretra, Mayor of Test Valley Cllr Jan Lovell and Beverley Street and Steve Cotney, of the Chantry Centre, chose the winners.

All the pictures were taken by well-known photographer David Facey.

Awards were distributed by the mayor and Cherished China was on hand to provide a unique memento of the day in the form of the child’s hand print on a glazed plate.

S t e ve Dancey, head of editorial at the Andover Advertiser, introduced the event on behalf of the organisers.

He said: “In all the years I’ve been in the town I’ve never ceased to be impressed by people’s enthusiasm for this competition.

“Other towns have tried to recreate the popularity of Supertots but none has quite managed to capture the level of public participation seen here.

“The combination of David Facey’s longrunning rapport with the public, the central location of the Chantry Centre and the popularity of the Advertiser in the town makes the contest so successful.”

This year’s Supertot is Kiyrun Hannaford from King Arthur’s Way, who was the winner of the 25 to 48 month age group.
